Welcome

Dear Parent/ Guardian,

Thank you for considering St. Joseph’s Secondary School for your son/daughter. I hope that our school website will give you an insight into our school, our values and our curriculum.

We have a long tradition of education in Drogheda. The Christian Brothers first opened a school in Drogheda in 1858. We moved to our current site at Newfoundwell from Sunday’s Gate in 1990 and opened the state of the art Whitaker extension here in 2015. Our school is a centre for teaching and learning and we pride ourselves in offering a tailored learning experience for our students which maximises their potential.

We work closely with our feeder Primary schools to make the transition from Primary to Post Primary School an exciting and positive experience. Our student support teams oversee the pastoral care of our students. We foster a safe, caring and respectful environment where our students’ holistic development is promoted, encouraged and supported. Our strong partnership with parents is central in supporting us in providing the very best for each student.

We have a dedicated team of teachers, sna’s and ancillary staff who inspire a love of learning in our students. We work with our students to achieve high academic standards and prepare them for the next stage of their lives in their progression to third-level colleges and universities, apprenticeships or the workplace. Our extensive range of subject options at junior and senior cycle promote the development of each student, giving them autonomy to choose subjects that are the best fit for them.

We aim to give students a love for learning while developing their social skills, self-esteem and confidence. We have a thriving and diverse range of programmes for our students including Junior Cycle, L2LP, Transition Year, Leaving Certificate, Leaving Certificate Vocational Program and Leaving Certificate Applied. Our blend of academic and social programmes nurture inclusivity and provide our students with an opportunity to connect to local, national and international societies.

We offer an extensive extra-curricular programme which ensures that our students feel a sense of connection and belonging to our school. Our extra-curricular activities enable students to come together with others and work in teams, build positive relationships and flourish.

We continue to develop our program for students with Autism. We are delighted to have opened a fourth AS class in 2023 and are currently working with the Department of Education on a 2.5 million euro extension which will further enhance our facilities for these students.

Please join us at our open evening where we will be available to show you our facilities and answer any question that you may have. If you have any questions in the meantime or if you would like to speak to a member of our team do not hesitate to contact us.

Best Wishes,
Paul Savage
Principal
