St. Josephs Secondary school is proud to be part of an Erasmus + KA2 project called Matters of Matter – Future Materials in Science Education. The project will run for three years, from 2014 to 2017. The partner schools are from Italy (IIS – Cavazzi Sorbelli), Germany (Gymnasium Papenburg) and Portugal (Escola Secundaria/3 de Barcelinhos).

The first two years of the project centers on smart materials, which are new and innovative materials that are being developed around the world. The final year of the project focuses on sustainable and green materials.

At the end of the project, in the summer of 2017, a Summer School for teachers’ professional development will be organised in Italy to provide further dissemination in a teachers to teachers approach. All the didactical materials produced will be available under Creative Commons as OER (Open Educational Resources).

Mr. McDonagh is the coordinator of the project and only students who are in Transition Year can participate in it. For more information on the other schools involved in the project and their work please visit the website www.mattersofmatter.eu
